Our Partnership, Your Friendship

Why partner with Tearfund?

The advantage of working through Tearfund is simply that we have more than 40 years’ experience of working to address poverty in partnership with churches and Christian groups around the world.

We understand the pitfalls of working cross-culturally, and we also know how to achieve real and sustainable transformation in people’s lives.

Connected Church is all about putting our relationships and expertise at your service to make the experience rewarding, secure and beneficial for everyone involved.

How we fight poverty

Poverty does more than exhaust, starve, trap and kill people. It destroys their sense of worth, limits their horizons, robs people of the chance to reach their full potential.

Tearfund’s call is to follow Jesus where the need is greatest. We long for new life and a new sense of worth for people. We do whatever it takes to end poverty and rebuild poor communities.

We work through local churches, because they're Jesus’ body on earth, ready to care for the whole person - and the whole community - inside and out.

A three way partnership

A Connected Church partnership involves three parties; you, your Partner and us here at Tearfund.

Your Partner is fighting poverty, supported by your prayer, finances and relationship; all held together with our expertise and oversight.

We’re constantly working with your Partner to increase their capacity and make sure they’re supported in all that they do as part of our relationship with them.

THESE ARE OUR COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES IN A PARTNERSHIP:

You Will

  • Be introduced to your Partner, their leadership and work through Connected Church updates, so you can build a relationship with them
  • Both the church, and individuals who choose to, will receive regular updates and news by email on the progress of our Partners’ work and things to pray for
  • Commit to supporting your Partner's work in prayer and bringing your partnership to the attention of your church and wider community, through regular input in church communications, Sunday services and community events
  • Resource your Partner's work financially
  • Be able to visit your Partner or even invite them to visit you

We will

  • Keep you updated with quarterly reports on what's happening with your Partner and what you can pray for
  • Give you resources and ideas for engaging your church and community
  • Offer you ways of connecting with your Partner, perhaps even by going and visiting.
  • Be involved in the design of your Partner's programmes to ensure they are of high quality and very effective.
  • Hold your Partner to account for funds spent on the project and decisions our Partners make.
  • Be involved in the development of your Partner's organisation and staff.

Outside the box

Over time, and especially as you visit your Partner and deepen your relationship, we recognise that it's possible that you may come across things that you and your Partner feel called to think about working together in that are simply outside the remit of the work that Tearfund and the Partner are committed to together.

If this does happen, we simply ask that you consider these ideas with us.

Having introduced you to each other, we have a duty to help you and your Partner develop the best plans possible. Plans that are sustainable, that bring long lasting change, that are appropriate for the culture they are to be outworked in and ultimately, plans that are designed to help the people we are seeking to serve to maximum effect.

Our expertise in partnership, provides a safe space for your friendships to flourish.
